Book teaches that learning is a lifelong process Published September/October 2000 At the age of 98, George was visited at his home by a worker from a local adult education program. The man convinced him to take a literacy class. Being able to read was something that he had put off long enough. Since he was living alone and growing tired of fishing, he decided to give reading a chance. He loved it. By the second day of class, George knew his ABCs and within the first month, he was able to write his name. After two years he could read on a third grade level. “Life is So Good,” co-authored by Seattle elementary school teacher Richard Glaubman, is a book about George’s amazing story and how he overcame life’s obstacles. It is an uplifting and optimistic look at new beginnings and human triumph. It re-emphasizes the philosophy that you are never too old to try something new.
