You go girls! Published July/August 2000 The calendar was inspired by Angela Baker’s husband, John, who fell ill and died from leukemia. While John did not survive to see the calendar, it was a source of joy and entertainment throughout his difficult illness. A sunflower appears in every tasteful photo, commemorating the flowers John grew in the hope that he would recover by the time they flowered. The concept and the images struck a chord with people. Thousands of letters poured in commending the women for their achievements and for helping to alter the perception of older women. “This is not about looks or age, it’s about spirit. I like to think of it as a celebration of women in full bloom,” said Tricia Stewart (“Miss October”). “Somehow it has touched people’s hearts and their souls.”
