Most who celebrate Easter know the religious significance of the holiday. Here is a look at how some of the modern Easter traditions got started.Showing off new spring clothes: In early Christian times, those converting to Christianity were baptized and given brand new white robes. They wore these robes for eight days.
Easter parade: This tradition dates back to the fourth century during the reign of Roman Emperor Constantine. He demanded that his subjects dress in elegant clothing and walk proudly in a parade honoring the resurrection of Christ.
Easter bunny / colored eggs: To figure out the exact date of Easter, the phases of the moon were used. Since the days of ancient Egypt, the rabbit has been associated with the moon. Legend has it that a poor woman couldn’t afford to buy sweets to give out to the local children so she dyed eggs and had the children hunt for them. The kids saw a large rabbit while hunting in the bushes and thought the bunny left the colorful eggs.
