Americans get heartburn smart Published September/October 2000 (NAPS) - Heartburn is a potentially serious condition that affects more than 60 million Americans at least once a month and can severely limit the daily activities and productivity of sufferers. To help consumers understand the causes and management of this common ailment, the National Heartburn Alliance has developed a free consumer booklet called “Get Heartburn Smart: Self-Care Strategies for Heartburn Sufferers.” The 16-page booklet provides information about heartburn and its causes, strategies for treatment and prevention, tips for distinguishing heartburn from other conditions as well as guidelines for when to see a professional. A chart to track symptoms is included and can serve as a reference during a consultation with a pharmacist or health care provider. In addition, the booklet dispels common heartburn myths, answers the most commonly asked questions about heartburn and provides a comprehensive overview of available medications. For a free copy of “Get Heartburn Smart,” consumers may call toll-free 1-877-642-2463 or write: “Get Heartburn Smart Booklet Offer, National Heartburn Alliance,” P.O. Box 42510, Blue Ash, OH 45242. Consumers can also log onto the Alliance’s Web site at www.HeartburnAlliance.org Return to a list of feature stories from Home Front Magazine.
