A coffee cake that's plum good Published June 2000
(NAPS) - Plum Good Lemon Streusel Coffeecake earned Alfred Lester, of Wilmington, N.C., $1,000 in the 6th Annual Kretschmer Wheat Germ "Easy & Delicious" Recipe Contest. His adaptation of a favorite family recipe placed first in the Muffins, Biscuits, Coffeecakes and Other Breads category. The easy-to-make lemon-flavored cake is topped with sweet, juicy plums and a crunchy wheat germ and cinnamon streusel topping. Red plums have the prettiest color, but other varieties as well as nectarines taste equally delicious. When asked why he's such a big wheat germ fan, Lester said, "Wheat germ adds a nutrition boost to foods we enjoy eating, but most of all we love its nutty flavor."
