The origins of father’s day

In 1910, Mrs. John Bruce Dodd of Spokane Washington was responsible for the first Father’s Day rosesproclamation that honored all fathers (living or deceased). She decided to use the rose as a symbol for this day (red for those dads still living and a white rose for fathers who had died). It wasn’t until 1972 that Father’s Day became a national holiday in this country. It is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.
