The National Scenic Byways Program was developed in 2000 under the U.S. Department of Transportation to pay tribute to scenic, cultural and historical roadways throughout our country.
Here, roads are categorized as either “All American Roads” (highways that are defined as destinations themselves), or “National Scenic Byways” (roads that possess unique cultural and historical qualities).
You can call 1-800-4BYWAYS or visit the Byways Program’s Web site at www.byways.org to obtain a list of these roads or to find out specific information on nominating highways in your state. So get out the soap, wash the car and take a road trip. Remember how much fun that Sunday drive used to be? Re-visit America. Enjoy her beauty and experience the soul of the people who live here.
